Alyson's Teaching Portfolio

Welcome!

My name is Alyson O'Shea and this is where you'll find information about me and my teaching.

I grew up in Sarasota, Florida, located on the Gulf of Mexico.  I enjoy being near the ocean, but also exploring new places as well.  While studying at the University of Florida, I participated in a summer study abroad program to Mannheim, Germany.  This experience opened my eyes to another culture and way of life, and increased my desire to travel and learn languages.

After graduating from the University of Florida with my Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics and German in 2008, I spent a year as an au-pair in Zwickau, Germany.  Zwickau is located in East Germany in the mountains, and there I experienced winter for the first time.  I also quickly learned to develop my German, since the family I lived with did not speak English!  As an au-pair, I looked after the children, aged 4, 11, and 17, and helped take care of the animals on the farm.

Following my time in Germany, I returned to the U.S. and moved to Pennsylvania, where I began my Master's Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language at Penn State.  I intend to graduate with my MA in TESL in May 2011.   Outside of teaching ESL, I enjoy traveling, studying languages, reading, horseback riding, and spending time with friends and family.
